Sometimes it can take the Vermont State Police time before they can sort out fault in a car accident with death resulting. In the crash noted below the officer did not attribute fault although the report seems to imply operator number one was at fault. The family of a victim of a wrongful death accident has a claim for damages under Vermont law. It is a complicated process and requires the opening of a probate estate. There is also insurance coverage available for funeral expenses under medical payments coverage.

The statute of limitation is Vermont for wrongful death cases is two year versus three years for a car accident case without death resulting.
