SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On May 7, 2020, at approximately 1020 hours, a Trooper with the Vermont State

Police encountered a vehicle traveling 82 MPH in a posted 50 MPH area of

highway. The trooper attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop but the vehicle

failed to yield and accelerated at a high rate of speed. Shortly thereafter the

vehicle encountered a tractor trailer unit and was unable to safely pass it, as

a result the operator traveled towards the right shoulder and off the traveled

portion of highway. The vehicle came to a position of rest down a steep

embankment.

After coming to a position of rest, the operator fled the scene through a

densely wooded area. The operator was found about an hour later behind a

residence near Lime Kiln Road in the Town of New Havnen. The

operator identified as Justin Gaboriault (32) of Rutland, VT. Gaboriault was

then transported to the New Haven Barracks for processing.

During the investigation, it was learned from the Rutland City Police Department

that Gaboriault took the vehicle he was operating without consent of its owner.

Gaboriault was issued a criminal citation to appear before the Addison Superior

Court Criminal Division to answer the charges listed above.

Several indicators of drug impairment were observed of Gaboriault during the

investigation. A search warrant was applied for and granted by the Honorable

Court.
