SUMMARY OF CRASH: On May 29, 2020, at approximately 1852 hours, Troopers from the New Haven Barracks responded to U.S. Route 7 in the vicinity of River Road in the Town of New Haven for a report of a two vehicle crash.

It was reported that vehicle #1 had fled the scene of the crash. Based on information provided by operator #2, the operator of vehicle #1 was travelling south bound on U.S. Route 7 and passed vehicle #2 on the left. Vehicle #1 subsequently struck the driver’s side rear end of vehicle #2, disabling the vehicle’s rear tire. After colliding with the rear of vehicle #2, Operator #1 continued south bound on U.S. Route 7.

With the assistance of the Middlebury Police Department, vehicle #1 was located unoccupied. Troopers ultimately identified the operator of vehicle #1 as 49 year old Karen Norton of Vergennes, VT.

Subsequent investigation revealed Norton had committed the offense of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, a violation of Title 23 VSA Section 1128. Norton was located and released on citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court – Criminal Division to answer to the charge.
