SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On April 6, 2020 at approximately 1423 hours VT State Police Troopers were being visible on I89 in Bolton in the area of MM70.4 Northbound. At that time Troopers observed a Silver Mazda 3 sedan traveling north in the passing lane at 104 mph. Troopers attempted to pull out and catch up to the car but the driver increased his speed to approximately 120 mph. Due to the high rate of speed, Troopers backed off for public safety reasons. In the area of MM74 northbound a Chittenden County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled out and attempted to stop the vehicle at which point in time the same car increased its speed again to approximately 120 mph.

The vehicle exited I89 at Exit 11 where The Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department continued pursuing the vehicle through the Town of Jericho. The Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department cancelled their pursuit for public safety reasons as well. Approximately 5 minutes later Troopers saw the vehicle on

Allen Martin Drive in Essex and were able to obtain a plate from the vehicle. A separate Trooper responded to the registered owner’s residence shortly thereafter and contacted a family member. The Trooper requested that the family member call the driver to tell him to stop, or return home, which he did.

The 17 y/o juvenile was taken into custody in his driveway without incident after returning home. The juvenile was transported to the Williston State Police Barracks for processing and cited to appear in Chittenden Family (Juvenile) Court to answer to the charges of Negligent Operation and Attempting to Elude. The operator will be mailed multiple civil traffic tickets as well.
